Construction in Full Swing

The geothermal installation is now well into the construction phase. We expect to bring the geothermal well into operation and start producing sustainable heat before the end of 2025!

In recent weeks, work on the wells has been carried out, including the perforation of the injector. The remaining well activities are scheduled to be completed during November according to the current planning.

Transfer of Shell’s Stake to Gaia Energy Completed

The administrative transfer of Shell Geothermal’s shareholding to Gaia Energy has now been completed. This change has no impact on the governance of Geothermie Delft B.V.; following the transfer, EBN, TU Delft, and Gaia Energy remain the shareholders in the joint venture.

Nico Kuipers, Director of Gaia Energy:
“We are very pleased with the acquisition of Shell’s stake. We look back on a very pleasant collaboration and remain committed to working with our partners to make this project a success—supplying sustainable heat to the TU Campus and the city of Delft.”

Jeroen van Duin, GM Shell Geothermal:
I look back on an extremely enjoyable collaboration with the partners in Geothermie Delft, NetVerder, InWarmte, the housing corporations, and the Municipality of Delft, and I’m proud of what we have achieved together over the past six years. (...) I’m pleased that, with the transfer to Gaia Energy as an existing partner, we have ensured the continuity of the project.”

Final Contracts Signed for the Construction Phase

Recently, a construction contract was signed with Equans for the development of the heat pump plant. The main realization phase will take place in 2026 and the first half of 2027. With this agreement, the final construction contracts for Geothermie Delft have been concluded.
