Major Works Underway to Prepare the Geothermal Source for Operation

27 October 2025

Last week, major activities began to prepare the geothermal source for operation by the end of this year. If everything continues according to plan, Geothermie Delft (GTD) will be able to supply heat for the first time to buildings and homes on the TU Delft campus.

All work is taking place within the GTD construction site. The most eye-catching feature at the moment is the large yellow crane, which is being used for work on both the injection and production wells of the geothermal source. These activities are being carried out simultaneously with work in other areas. For example, an electrical substation has been installed on site to enable GTD to connect to the power grid. In addition, installation work continues in the Combined Heat and Power (CHP) plant building, and major progress has been made over the past week on the foundation for the large buffer tank in the Heat Pump Plant.

These activities require close coordination and alignment among all parties involved to ensure safe and efficient progress. So far, everything is running smoothly. Although we expect a slight delay of a few days in some of the work, we are very satisfied with the overall progress.

Together, we are working hard to achieve our goal: delivering heat to the campus and the city by the end of this year.
