GTD Secures €50 Million Financing Deal

Geothermie Delft B.V. (GTD) has secured a €50 million financing agreement with Rabobank and Nederlandse Waterschapsbank (NWB Bank). The funding will be used to construct the geothermal plant and the associated heat pump station—key infrastructure for decarbonising Delft's heat supply. The heat pump station will further boost the temperature of the extracted geothermal heat, making it suitable for distribution to buildings on the TU Delft campus and households in the Voorhof and Buitenhof districts.

A Prime Example of Sustainable Finance

The backing from Rabobank and Nederlandse Waterschapsbank highlights geothermal energy as a solid investment asset class within the renewable energy sector. This project demonstrates that geothermal heat in the built environment is not only technically and operationally feasible, but also bankable within commercial and institutional banking.

“This transaction shows that sustainable heat projects can compete on equal terms with other large-scale energy investments,” said Rass Butt, Director of GTD. “The confidence shown by institutional lenders confirms that geothermal energy is a robust solution in the energy transition.”
