On Friday morning, 20 September, Esther Pijs, Director-General for Groningen and the Subsurface at the Ministry of Climate and Green Growth (KGG, formerly EZK), visited the drilling site.
She met with Councillor Maaike Zwart and representatives from GTD, TU Delft, Netverder, and Geothermie Nederland to discuss progress on the project to date and the key lessons for the wider sector—including the bottlenecks to scaling up geothermal projects across the Netherlands.
GTD, the Municipality of Delft, and the Ministry of KGG all view the Delft project as a flagship example of how geothermal energy in urban areas can accelerate the heating transition. The valuable insights gained in Delft will now be taken forward to The Hague and shared across the rest of the country.
