Construction Work Geothermie Delft – Summer 2026

19 July 2026

Information on Construction Work for Local Residents

This summer, Geothermie Delft (GTD) is taking a major step toward making our city more sustainable. At the geothermal plant location between Rotterdamseweg and Leeghwaterstraat in Delft, preparations for the construction of the new heat pump station will begin starting late July 2026. Netverder and TU Delft will also be carrying out work to lay the heat network and install the new High-Temperature Thermal Energy Storage system (HTO).

Although we are doing everything we can to keep disruption to a minimum, you may notice some activity over the coming summer period. This may include traffic diversions or moderate noise. We kindly ask for your understanding.

Summary of Activities

  • Late July: Netverder begins the first excavation work around the site to lay pipes.

  • Netverder will also start underground drilling to lay heat pipes beneath Rotterdamseweg.

  • Additionally, various activities will take place around the Nieuwe Haven, such as the installation of sheet piling.

  • Late August: A large buffer tank will be assembled on the GTD site itself, causing extra transport movements and the use of large cranes.

  • September: Construction of the heat storage system (HTO) will begin behind parking garage P5 on Rotterdamseweg.

How Will This Affect You?

  • Homes and commercial premises will remain accessible at all times.

  • Traffic diversions will be set up where necessary.

  • Work areas will be enclosed with site fencing.
